The Legacy Society was established to honor individuals who have contributed a Major Gift to the NCPA Foundation of $10,000 or more, or who have remembered the NCPA Foundation in their will, estate planning, or financial planning through a bequest or other charitable deferred gift options as outlined in the "Ways to Give" and/or "Bequest Language" sections of the NCPA Foundation website.

Planned giving is, in many cases, the most thought-out and thoughtful of gifts and allows a donor to make a positive and lasting difference in the lives of future generations of pharmacists while having an extraordinary impact on the NCPA Foundation. A Planned Gift to the NCPA Foundation can memorialize one's legacy and enable one to give a gift in ways not possible during a lifetime. A Planned Gift may also have tax advantages that can impact business succession planning and estate planning.

Naming opportunities for Major Gifts begin at $25,000, such as a scholarship fund named in your honor or named after a loved one as a remembrance.

Remembering the NCPA Foundation in your will automatically includes you in the NCPA Foundation Legacy Society. Please refer to the "Bequest Language" section of the NCPA Foundation website.

If you have made provisions for the NCPA Foundation through your financial planning, please let us know at info@ncpafoundation.org. We would like to thank you now for your generosity to the NCPA Foundation and honor you by inducting you into the NCPA Foundation Legacy Society.

The NCPA Foundation is pleased to recognize the following distinguished group of individuals who are inductees of the NCPA Foundation Legacy Society.

Ed Berg is president and CEO of Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Company located in Algona, Iowa. Ed’s company’s support for the NCPA Foundation is all too familiar including its challenge grant pledge of $250,000 for the Pruitt-Schutte Student Business Plan Competition Endowment Fund in 2008. On a personal level, Ed became the first donor to contribute a Gift of Life Insurance for the NCPA Foundation. Purchasing a life insurance policy that is specifically intended for the NCPA Foundation provides a substantial, cost-effective deferred gift to the NCPA Foundation. Ed has since initiated such a program for the NCPA Foundation so that others can also contribute this type of major gift to the NCPA Foundation.

David Elm of Boulder, Colorado. David made his contribution to the NCPA Foundation by earmarking it for the Dennis Ludwig Memorial Fund. Dennis was president of NCPA (then NARD) from 1996 to 1997, and he was David's close personal friend and colleague who died suddenly in 2006 soon after returning home to Colorado from the NCPA Legislative Conference. Recently, the NCPA Foundation Board designated the Ludwig Memorial Fund to support pharmacy student participation in the NCPA Legislative Conference. This is a conference that Dennis would never miss and he always made sure that students were well-represented at the conference. With David Elm's assistance, the Fund is now close to $40,000. The goal is to increase this fund to $50,000 or more.

Holly Whitcomb Henry and Mike Henry are pharmacists and owners. Holly is president and CEO of Rxtra Care Inc., which is comprised of three pharmacies in the Seattle area that offer a variety of specialty services like compounding and adult family services. For 14 years Mike has run one of those pharmacies, which is located in West Seattle. It is truly a family affair for the Henrys as their son Nick works as pharmacy technician at the pharmacy run by his Dad. Both Henrys considered the NCPA Foundation as part of their estate and financial planning strategy by bequeathing the NCPA Foundation in their will. The NCPA Foundation is recognizing them for this most thoughtful and thought out of gifts and for their exemplary commitment to the mission of the NCPA Foundation. The Henrys’ gift bequest is the simplest way to leave an asset to a charitable organization, such as the NCPA Foundation, and allows donors to retain their assets to meet future financial needs during their lifetime.

Forest “Woody” Pack is the owner of Pack Pharmacy in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is a longtime member of NCPA, having first joined almost 60 years ago. Even though Woody is eligible for retirement he still works in his pharmacy every day, and he would not have it any other way. Woody has two sons who are also pharmacists. His son, John Pack, is a pharmacy owner in Lima, Ohio. Woody has served in a number of professional leadership roles including past president of the Ohio Pharmacists Association and president and longtime steward of the former Ohio Association for Independent Pharmacy. Woody is being recognized for going above and beyond with his generous major gift to the NCPA Foundation in response to an appeal to support the NCPA Foundation.

Nancy Pruitt of Toccoa, Georgia. Nancy's leadership has been so very apparent year with the start of the Neil S. Pruitt, Sr. Memorial Scholarship that she endowed in loving memory of her late husband. Neil was the 1981-1982 NARD President and a former NCPA Foundation Board of Trustee who was also an exemplary entrepreneur having turned a small pharmacy business in northeast Georgia into a multi-faceted health care organization, United Health Services, with operations in several southeastern states. Nancy was also recognized for her leadership as a founding benefactor of the NCPA Pruitt-Schutte Annual Student Business Plan Competition Endowment Fund. Nancy's generosity is very encouraging to future generations of independent community pharmacists.

Betty Schutte of Louisville, Kentucky. Betty and her family have also been such very strong supporters of the NCPA Foundation, and we thank them for also initiating the Endowment Fund for the NCPA Pruitt-Schutte Annual Student Business Plan Competition. Her late husband Joe, is also a past president of NARD, having served from 1986 to 1987 and served as an NCPA Foundation Trustee from 1999 until his death in January 2009. Joe launched his independent pharmacy career with Jeffersontown Pharmacy in Louisville, Kentucky. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to create a new business model in the pharmacy industry. This resulted in the growth of an immensely successful corporation called Geri-Med that provides group purchasing services and programs to long-term care pharmacies throughout the country. Betty is a very successful entrepreneur in her own right. She is the owner of a real estate firm and she is a past president of the Greater Louisville of Realtors. Both Joe and Betty are still very busy with their careers and family, but they always make time to serve independent pharmacy, and especially the NCPA Foundation.
