Founded in 1953, the NCPA Foundation has spent more than seventy years working to keep independent community pharmacy strong.
Our mission is to improve community-based healthcare by advancing the sustainability, growth, and public understanding of independent community pharmacists — the most accessible healthcare providers.
But independent pharmacy owners often face their biggest challenges alone: financial pressure, burnout, natural disasters, rural isolation, and barriers that keep talented aspiring owners out of the field altogether. That’s where we come in.
Whether it’s helping a pharmacy reopen after a storm, walking alongside a first-generation owner through complex decisions, or opening doors for rural and minority candidates, we make sure independent pharmacy stays strong, resilient, and within reach.
Our vision is a future where independent community pharmacies are accessible to all and recognized as vital to patient health. We ensure that anyone who aspires to own a pharmacy can achieve it, and that every owner can grow, adapt, and thrive — keeping the profession strong for generations to come.
The NCPA Foundation is an independent, philanthropic 501(c)(3) organization. While we proudly support programs and events that the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) offers the independent pharmacy community, we are completely autonomous — no NCPA board members or staff hold voting authority on our board. That independence means every decision we make is guided by one thing: what’s best for patients, pharmacists, and the communities they serve.
Our work is powered entirely by the generosity of individuals, foundations, and corporations who share our belief that every town deserves an independent community pharmacy.
There is no other foundation in the United States solely dedicated to the sustainability and growth of independent community pharmacy.
